Why choose this program?

The main objective of the Theatre Studies (Acting) program at Dal is to satisfy the needs of those students who have decided to pursue a career as performers in professional theatre. The program is progressive in nature, culminating in a company of student actors who perform in three theatrical productions in the Fountain School season in their fourth year.

Admission requirements

Minimum admission requirements

To be considered for admission to this program, you must meet minimum academic criteria:

  1. Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
  2. Achievement of the minimum average for your program of choice.
  3. Completion of Grade 12 English (or equivalent course).

Bachelor of Arts requirements:

  • Minimum overall average: 70%

  • Academic English 12

  • Four additional academic subjects

What you will learn

Each year of the program has a specific purpose. The first year is designed to orient students, and the second introduces students to fundamental principles. Students then learn how to integrate what they have discovered as they gain further understanding of techniques and creative expression. In the final year, studies are geared toward performance and entering the world of professional acting.

Third-year students perform in one show of the Fountain School season and may be invited to perform in others. The company of fourth year Acting Program students will be cast in three Fountain School season shows.听听

Careers

Graduates of Dal鈥檚 Acting program have gone on to perform on both the stage and screen, having gained the versatility necessary to apply themselves to a wide range of roles and environments as well as the skills to navigate various industries.

Graduates of the program may decide to pursue graduate studies in theatre and acting or sharpen their skills by joining professional development classes or training privately.
