Passionate about hormones

Our goal is to undertake basis and translational research relevant to the understanding of obesity, diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, pubertal development, menopause and infertility.

Our activities benefit from the state-of-the-art equipment for cellular, molecular and in vivo investigations as well as clinical facilities within the  at the IWK Health Centre and the Department of Physiology and Biophysics.

Our current projects include:

  • Role of orexigenic hormone ghrelin in insulin resistance and obesity
  • Feeding and hormonal abnormalities in Alzheimer's mice models
  • Identification of follicular fluid biomarkers of oocyte developmental competence
  • Processing of ProApelin and the role of apelin in adipogenesis
  • Epigenetics of pubertal development
  • Metabolic control of reproductive maturation
  • Epigenetic markers of developmental origins of health and disease
