Colin Stewart Scholarship for Studies on Parks and Protected Areas in the Acadian Forest Region

Background

Colin Stewart was a tireless advocate for forest conservation in the Acadian forest region (Maritime Provinces). He worked closely with industry, government and the environmental community to promote improved management practices. He argued persuasively for parks and protected areas as important tools that both shed light on the ecology of the Acadian forest and that, by preserving important features of Acadian forest undisturbed, allow for intelligent economic utilization of the working forest.

Purpose

To support and encourage graduate studies that explores the roles of parks and protected areas in conserving the ecological integrity of the Acadian forest.

Amount

The award will have a value of $1,000 with one competition per year.听

Eligibility

The award is available to students beginning their second year of graduate studies in the Master of Environmental Studies program at the School for Resource and Environmental Studies at 新加坡六合彩开奖直播.听

A successful student must have a strong academic background and the thesis research must involve parks and protected areas in the Acadian forest.听

Application Process

Interested students must write a one-page, single-spaced rationale explaining why they feel they should receive the award. This letter must be accompanied by a curriculum vitae, an approved thesis proposal, and a letter of reference from the student鈥檚 supervisor.

Application Deadline

Students will be prompted to apply before the end of their first year of study through a notice from the department. Applications are due as posted each year and are to be submitted to Awards Committee at sres@dal.ca.

Adjudication

In consultation with the Director of SRES, the Awards Committee of SRES shall receive applications and make the award.
