Big Data and the First World War
From speaker Rob Warren & The Institute for Big Data Analytics
The next few years marks the centenary of the First World War, arguably the first "industrial'' war and one of the first where extensive documentation is available. This centenary also coincides with the availability of Semantic Web technologies and opportune funding that has allowed archival institutions to make their document collections available through the web.
This talk will highlight some of the opportunities for mixing historical research with Big Data in terms of extracting data from archival material and analyzing it at a scale that was previously not possible.
