The OFI Seed Fund supports ocean-related projects that offer high potential for innovation success but are in need of small amounts of funding to move forward and grow.
The OFI partners with the SURGE science innovation sandbox to support trainees in preparing strong applications for the Seed Fund. Together, the organizations have prepared a two-day workshop to introduce the Seed Fund and provide prospective applicants with more information about the program, tips on writing a strong application, and feedback on ideas and ways to align them with OFI’s strategic priorities.
The Seed Fund is designed for researchers who have an innovative idea for an ocean-related project. Successful applicants are usually granted $10,000 to $15,000 (with very compelling projects up to $30,000) in funding to help their projects move forward and grow. Applications are open from May and will close June 30th. Read more about the .Ìý
The event will be held Wednesday, May 25 and Thursday, May 26 in a hybrid fashion. Students are welcome to attend and can work individually or as teams. The event will include a panel discussion with knowledge experts and past Seed Fund awardees, workshops focused on needed skills, and grant writing to elevate applications to the Seed Fund. Participants will also receive guidance on the Seed Fund application process, which is due at the end of June. Participation does not guarantee a successful application but it will increase chances and provide helpful coaching on grant writing for other opportunities as well.ÌýÂ
