This position is a 100% 12-month limited term teaching position in the Faculty of Science (1-June-2022 to 31-May-2023). The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the Science Leadership courses (SCIE 4444.03 and SCIE 4445.00), coordinating the First year Interest Groups in Science program (FIGS) in the Fall 2022 term, and teaching and coordinating the scientific writing components and assisting with academic administration components of the Integrated Science Program (SCIE 1506.09 and SCIE 1507.09).
Responsibilities include:
1. Delivery of science leadership courses (SCIE 4444.03 Science Leadership, SCIE 4445.00 Science Leadership Portfolio) courses
· Update syllabus, deliver course content, assess students, and submit grades
· Coordinate the placement and supervision of students as mentors in the FIGS program

2. Coordination of Fall 2022 FIGS program (First year interest groups in science)
· Work with the Associate Dean Academic to manage recruitment and enrolment
· Recruit and hire teaching assistants
· Supervise teaching assistants
· Provide curriculum and set expectations for weekly sessions
· Provide guidance on role of Science Leadership students
· Submit final grades

3. Deliver scientific writing components for the Integrated Science Program (SCIE 1506 and 1507)
· Teach the scientific writing component of SCIE 1506.09 (lectures, tutorials, assignments); update content as needed
· Provide individualized feedback to students on their writing assignments for SCIE 1506.09 (written feedback, discussions, marking, supervision of TA markers)
· Provide feedback and oversee TA feedback to students on writing and presentation-related components of the research project, including the poster and oral presentation sessions (SCIE 1507.09)
· Mark and supervise the marking of final research projects (SCIE 1507.09)
4. Academic administrative assistance (Integrated Science Program)
· Assist with the writing and assembly of the Program review self-study document (June-August)
· Meet with all students in program (Fall 2022 term)
· Assist with the recruitment of research supervisors and student-supervisor matching process
· Participate in weekly faculty team meetings (Fall and Winter terms)
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
Applicants should have a strong background/degree(s) in science and scientific writing, relevant teaching experience, and demonstrated leadership ability.
Minimum requirements:
· Research-based graduate degree in the life or physical sciences (PhD preferred)
· Post-secondary teaching experience
· Demonstrated interest in teaching writing and critical thinking, outstanding writing skills
· Demonstrated leadership skills (e.g., program coordination, supervisory experience)

Preference will be given to applicants with:
· Experience reviewing scientific writing or teaching writing to undergraduate students
· Experience preparing scientific manuscripts
· Knowledge of the theory and practice of science leadership and communication
· Knowledge of research design, data collection and presentation
· Experience supporting/advising undergraduate students
