Ergonomics Week runs February 7‑11

As part of Dal's Ergonomics Week, which runs  February 7 – 11, 2022, Human Resources is pleased to collaborate with the School of Occupational Therapy, Faculty of Open Learning and Career Development, and the Environmental Health and Safety Office to highlight resources related to ergonomics. These can help you with your at-home work set up,  your on-campus one, or with transitioning back and forth. 

Live and online sessions

Join a live, interactive workshop: "Ergo on the Go: Solutions for Hybrid Work" with Dal Occupational Therapy students, available on multiple dates, all from 12 – 1 p.m. on MS Teams.

For those who want to deepen their learning about ergonomics, the Faculty of Open Learning and Career Development offers an online course, and here are the steps to access it:

  • First, login to . Then click on  to register for the ergonomics course.
  • If you complete the course and send your certificate of completion to healthy@dal.ca in the month of February, your name will go into a draw for prizes that will support your ergonomic efforts, like laptop stands, palm rests and foldable keyboards.

Resources

  • Dal's ergonomic  helps you determine how your workstation measures up. Assess your chair, monitor, keyboard, and even lighting considerations.
  • Explore a  demonstrating some of the specific aspects of what we used to call "office ergonomics," which really means all the computer work we find ourselves doing now.  Check out the Dal Tiger figuring it all out.
  • Have your own virtual ergonomic assessment. Complete the  through the Environmental Health and Safety Office to be paired with an Occupational Therapy student who will remotely help determine how good your ergonomic set up is and give you some pointers on making the most of your current arrangement.

Tips

  • Consider these  for adults aged 18-64 years of age. Review how much you exercise, sit and, yes, sleep.
  • µþ³Ü¾±±ô»å  with this series of at-home exercises.
  • Learn some  to overcome sitting at a computer all day.
