Position:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Teaching Assistant - Research Methods in Policy Analysis (PUAD 5180)
Location:      Ð¼ÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥, School of Public Administration, Studley Campus - Online
​Hourly Wage:           $24.41 per hour
Workload:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 130 hours (September to December 2021)
The course is designed to provide graduate students in the MPA Program with a solid understanding of the research process used to support the use of evidence in policy making.
The online course is offered from September to December 2021 on Tuesdays from 1835 to 2125 and has a tutorial on Thursdays from 1835 to 2125. The teaching assistant is responsible for a series of course related tasks, including collaborative preparation of course materials, the holding of the tutorial (a mix of synchronous and asynchronous online delivery), the holding of office hours for consultations with students, and the grading of student work (shared with the professor). The TA is expected to attend the lectures (a mix of synchronous and asynchronous online delivery). All teaching activities will be performed online, although meetings with the course professor may take place in person.
The candidate will support the professor's effort to create a healthy, constructive and challenging learning environment. With this in mind, the ideal candidate will have successfully completed a graduate level research methods course and will have obtained a grade of A- or higher. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed major graduate level research (for example a thesis or major research project). The candidate will demonstrate that they can conduct themselves in a highly professional manner with students and faculty. The candidate will, for example, hold in high regard the integrity of the social scientific research process, have a personable approach to students, show concern for student learning and abide by the ethical standards of the university. The successful candidate will follow directions as laid out by the course professor and engage in a constructive dialogue with the course professor throughout the course. All job offers are provisional until confirmed by the School.

Workload: Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 130 hours (September to December 2021)
The course is designed to provide graduate students in the Public Administration program with a solid understanding of principles of quantitative methods. The emphasis of the course is on applications, in public administration and beyond.Â
The online course is offered from September to December 2021 on Thursdays from 1435 - 1725 with an online tutorial on Wednesdays from 1435 - 1725. The teaching assistant is responsible for a series of course related tasks, including the holding of the tutorial, answering students' queries, the holding of office hours for consultations with students, and the grading of student exercises and tests with the provision of feedback to the students. All activities will be performed online.Â
​The ideal candidate will have succeeded in this course (or equivalent) and will have obtained a grade of A- or higher. A high academic performance in undergraduate quantitative courses would also be an asset. The ideal candidate will have a personable approach to students, show concern for students learning, and have an understanding of the challenges students face when learning quantitative subjects. The successful candidate will follow directions as laid out by the lead instructor, report to the lead instructor, and engage in a constructive dialogue with the lead instructor throughout the course. All job offers are provisional until confirmed by the School.
