Counselling Supports and Resources Available Now

Posted by Student Health & Wellness on November 29, 2019 in General Announcements

We are approaching end of term and know that November can be a particularly stressful time for students. There are counselling resources and supports that students can access now.

Each week, мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥Â Counsellors host drop-in support opportunities:

°Õ±«·¡³§¶Ù´¡³Û:ÌýEating Disorder Drop-in – A safe group setting to get support around eating, body image and difficult emotions (5–6:30pm, LeMarchant Place, Room 2304)

°Â·¡¶Ù±··¡³§¶Ù´¡³Û:ÌýNavigating End of Term Stress – A drop-in group to share your concerns and worries about the stress of the season (2:30–4pm, LeMarchant Place, Room 2304)

°Õ±á±«¸é³§¶Ù´¡³Û:ÌýÌýMind Your Emotions – A place to learn skills to be in the present moment and to reduce stress and anxiety (2:30–3:30pm, LeMarchant Place, Room 2304)

°Õ±á±«¸é³§¶Ù´¡³Û:ÌýPuppy Power Hour – Come meet Oscar 'the Therapy Dog' (and his Psychologist handler) and relax in the presence of canine-loving students (3–4pm, Student Union Building, Main floor)

Sometimes it is helpful to talk to another student who knows what it is like to struggle. мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ Stay Connected Mental Health Peer Support students, Catherine Robertson and Sara Roggeveen, provide drop-in peer support for anyone with mental health concerns (12–2pm, Monday to Thursday, Student Union Building, Wellness Room, Lower Level).

And don't forget, Good2Talk, мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥'s confidential helpline to speak anonymously with trained professionals 24/7/365 to receive support and information about mental health issues (1-833-292-3698).

Worried about your studies? Students can also attend free study skills workshops on topics such as note-taking, presentation skills, short answer & essay exam techniques, and time management. For times and locations, go to .

Or you can attend our Exam Anxiety Workshop, to learn about practical strategies to help manage exam anxiety and to prevent your mind from going blank (Monday, December 2/19, 4–5:30pm, LeMarchant Place, Room 2304).

You can find more information about these resources at .

Student Health and Wellness offers same-day counselling sessions. Should it be helpful to meet with one of our Counsellors for a same-day session, students can do so Monday through Saturday when Student Health and Wellness is open. Sometimes, the chance to share some concerns and problem-solve with a Counsellor in one session can really make a difference.
