Pertussis, also known as 鈥渨hooping cough鈥�, is a highly contagious respiratory disease聽caused by a germ called Bordetella pertussis.聽Pertussis vaccines are often mixed with other vaccines that protect against other illnesses such as diphtheria and tetanus. These three combined vaccines can be given as a single shot, which is called tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis vaccine or Tdap. The Tdap vaccine is part of the recommended vaccines for adults.

The Canadian Center for Vaccinology is conducting a clinical trial to test the effectiveness of a new Tdap booster when compared with the licensed Tdap vaccine, Adacel庐.

Participants must be between 19-21 years of age and not received a Tdap vaccine in the past 4 years. Study participants will be reimbursed for their time.
