WORK ASSIGNMENT: The part-time academic will be responsible for co-teaching the field and lab intensive BIOL/MARI 3680.03, "Scientific Diving Methods in Ecology".Ìý The course will be offered in the Summer session, August 15-30, 2018, Sunday through Saturday, approx. 0835-1655.Ìý Responsibilities include all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including lectures, field trips, test preparation, and evaluation of tests and reports. The part-time academic will also be responsible for preparing a budget in consultation with the program director, and keeping field-related expenses within the approved budget. In addition, the part-time academic will be responsible for driving students in vehicles rented by the university. The part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time before the course in preparing field exercises and after the official course dates to complete the evaluation of student work.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: A graduate degree in Biology or related field and research experience directly related to the topic of the course. Rescue Diver or Dive Master qualifications, at least 500 scientific dives logged, and previous experience with supervising students doing scientific diving SCUBA research.Ìý Up-to-date (within last 3 years) Standard First Aid and CPR certification and driver's license valid in Nova Scotia. Preference will be given to candidates possessing a Ph.D. and/or previous university teaching experience in the subject of the course.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The part-time academic will be responsible for co-teaching the field and lab intensive BIOL/MARI 3626.03 (Sec. 2), "Field Studies of Marine Mammals".Ìý The course will be offered in the Summer session, August 14-31, 2018, Sunday through Saturday, approx. 0835-1655 every day.Ìý Responsibilities include all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including lectures, field trips, test preparation, and evaluation of tests and reports.Ìý The part-time instructor will be responsible for students at all times of day for 5 days while off campus on Cape Breton Island, NS. The part-time academic will also be responsible for preparing a budget in consultation with the program director, and keeping field-related expenses within the approved budget. In addition, the part-time academic will be responsible for driving students in vehicles rented by the university.Ìý The part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time before and after the official course dates preparing and marking.
