мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ is seeking applicants for an Instructor position within the Department of Oceanography, Faculty of Science.  This position is a Probationary Position.  Applicants require a minimum M.Sc. in Oceanography, with extensive interdisciplinary experience in oceanographic sampling tools and techniques, and in teaching at the undergraduate level.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the organization, coordination and instruction of two sections of two 2nd-year, laboratory-based, 0.5-credit courses entitled Tools and Concepts in Oceanography I and II, which are offered consecutively in the Fall and Winter terms.  The Instructor also will be responsible for the organization, coordination and instruction of two sections of an intensive, 2-week, 0.5-credit field course entitled Introduction to Field Oceanography, which is offered in the Summer term.  The successful applicant will be responsible for the development, organization, coordination and instruction two, new, 0.5-credit courses in ocean sensors and ocean sensor platforms.  The successful applicant will be expected to assist with other aspects of delivery of the Ocean Sciences degree program as required.

Specific responsibilities include the following:  assisting with the instruction of the material; evaluating the suitability of individual exercises and updating them as necessary; preparing manuals for laboratory and field exercises in the classes; ordering necessary supplies; maintaining laboratory and field equipment; observing safe practices during laboratory and field exercises; hiring, supervising and evaluating the class Teaching Assistants; supervising any full- or part-time Technician(s) assigned to classes; keeping class records including student marks and conducting all administrative duties related to each class; designing class websites in Brightspace; answering student queries on class content; and advising students on undergraduate curriculum.

The Instructor will contribute to Department, Faculty and University committees and administration as needed, especially in areas relevant to undergraduate teaching.  Ongoing professional development, particularly in learning and teaching, is strongly encouraged.

The appointment date is 1 July 2018.
