The courses and requirements for these positions are as follows:

1. HSCE 2000.03 (Winter 2018) -- Health Care Ethics (on line)

NOTE: This course is taught exclusively via distance learning using мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥â€™s web-based Learn Management System platform.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: As the instructor of record for HSCE 2000, an introductory course in health care ethics, the responsibilities of the sessional lecturer will include development of course materials,           course delivery, teaching, and administration of the course.  Topics include: moral theory and principles and ethical issues in health care.  The maximum enrolment for this class is 60.

 REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Knowledge of health care system and previous teaching experience is required. Previous post-secondary teaching in the area of ethics in healthcare is required.  A master’s degree is required (a master’s degree in ethics is an asset).

2. HSCE 3000.03 (Winter 2018) -- Culture, Diversity & Health (on line)

NOTE: This course is taught exclusively via distance learning using мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥â€™s web-based Brightspace platform.

WORK ASSIGNMENT:  Responsibilities will include all aspects of development of course materials for on line delivery, on line teaching, and administration of the course.  The course will assist students in    identifying special populations encountered in their professional practice and in considering ways of providing effective, compassionate care. The maximum enrolment for this course is 50.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:  Undergraduate degree in a health profession and a complementary graduate degree are required. Previous teaching experience in a university setting with an understanding of the health needs of special populations and an awareness of diversity issues in relation to health care.

3. IDHS 3000.03 (Winter 2018) -- Contemporary Issues in Food Studies (on line)

NOTE: This course is taught exclusively via distance learning using мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥â€™s web-based Brightspace platform.

WORK ASSIGNMENT:  Responsibilities will include all aspects of development of course materials for online delivery, online teaching, and administration of the course.  This course introduces students  to the emerging interdisciplinary field of food studies. It critically considers the health implications of local food issues through a case-based curriculum using diverse disciplinary, holistic, and systemic perspectives. The maximum enrolment for this course is 100.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:  Undergraduate degree in a health profession and a complementary graduate degree are required. Previous teaching experience in a university setting with a thorough  understanding of the subject matter as well as online course delivery is required. 

4. IDHS 3100.03 (Winter 2018) -- Contemporary Issues in Rural Health (on line)

NOTE: This course is taught exclusively via distance learning using мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥â€™s web-based Brightspace platform.

WORK ASSIGNMENT:  Responsibilities will include all aspects of development of course materials for online delivery, online teaching, and administration of the course. This course introduces students to the emerging interdisciplinary study of health and health care delivery in rural environments. It offers an overview of health issues for various groups in rural areas, focusing on Nova Scotian, Canadian, and some international examples using a social determinants of health perspective. This course also addresses other factors that affect rural health, such as policy and politics, community   development, culture, human resources, and health services. The maximum enrolment for this course is 100.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:  Undergraduate degree in a health profession and a complementary graduate degree are required. Previous teaching experience in a university setting with a thorough understanding of the subject matter as well as online course delivery is required. 

All offers of employment as a part-time academic are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the courses and approval by the University.
