October 9 
Thanksgiving Day (Canada)
Held on the second Monday of October, the Canadian Thanksgiving Day, like similar celebrations elsewhere, is rooted in earlier harvest festivals and other expressions of gratitude.​

​October 10
World Mental Health Day (WHO)
World Mental Health Day raises public awareness about mental health issues. The day promotes open discussion of mental disorders, and investments in prevention, promotion and treatment services. 

October 11
International Day of the Girl Child
On December 19, 2011, the United Nations General Assembly declared October 11th as the International Day of the Girl Child, to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.
The International Day of the Girl Child gives people and organizations the opportunity to raise public awareness of the different types of discrimination and abuse that many girls around the world suffer from. On this day, many community and political leaders talk to the public about the importance of girls’ right to equal education and their fundamental freedoms.​

​October 12
Shmini Atzeret
Shmini Atzeret (the Eighth Day of Assembly) is a separate holiday concluding Sukkot and the entire fall holiday season. It marks the beginning of winter in the land of Israel. ​

​Ghambar Ayathrem
Observed from October 12 - 16, this day celebrates the creation of plants, the sowing of the winter crop, and the return of herds from pasture.

​October 13
Simḥat Torah
Simḥat Torah (Rejoicing of the Law) is the beginning of the synagogue’s annual Torah reading cycle. Reform Jews celebrate it along with Shemini Atzeret.​
