PAY RATE: In accordance with CUPE Collective Agreement (9 credit hours)

PERIOD OF WORK: August 1, 2017 – April 30, 2018

WORK ASSIGNMENT:

The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for developing and teaching the Introductory Statistics component (equivalent to STAT 1060) of SCIE 1505X and SCIE1505Y, Integrated Science (see /faculty/science/integrated-science-program.html) and assisting Integrated Science Biology, Earth Sciences and Psychology professors with the development of and participation in integrated sessions and data analysis as part of the data literacy component of SCIE1505.

Responsibilities are as follows:

Develop an integrated Statistics component that links with the other subjects in SCIE 1505 (Biology, Psychology, Earth Sciences) and when possible the co-requisite subjects Chemistry, Math, Physics and Ethics in Science. Position also includes the development and delivery of 8 labs/tutorials.

Instruction and coordination of the Statistics component in fall and winter terms including:
- Lecture on all topics at the introductory level for statistics
- attend regular field trips
- Post learning resources for students on Brightspace
- deliver and supervise tutorials and labs

Assist with instruction and delivery of data literacy and research skills component:
- Develop and delivering 2 to 4 workshops in the fall term in collaboration with other SCIE1505 professors
- Provide statistical support to the research project component of the class
- Lead or co-lead student research projects
- Meet with students weekly to guide research
- Provide timely written feedback on formal written papers and presentations.

Attend weekly meetings with other SCIE1505 professors Prepare, invigilate and mark midterm and final exam questions that are integrated with other subjects. Provide year end feedback on and revise the statistics curriculum of SCIE1505 by April 30th.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
A PhD graduate degree in Mathematics or Statistics or in progress. Candidate must have demonstrated experience applying statistics to data analysis in other fields of science. Minimum 2 years’ experience teaching Introductory Statistics to undergraduate students.
