1)ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Lecturer for NURS5560.03 – Transformative and Innovative Health Systems Planning (Fall term of the academic year 2017-2018)
The goal of this seminar course is to explore and discuss the structure of current health care systems in both developed and developing countries (particular focus on Canada) and the multiple factors that influence how health care is designed and delivered. Content includes governance, economics, health human resources planning, partnerships, interprofessional collaboration and trends and issues in global health.
This is a 3 credit hour seminar course consisting of 3 lecture hours per week on Wednesdays, 08:35 – 11:25, from September 5, 2017 – December 5, 2017. This contract runs from September 1, 2017 through December 22, 2017. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Graduate Studies.
2)ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Lecturer for NURS5735.03 – Pharmacotherapeutics for Nurse Practitioners (Fall term of the academic year 2017-2018)
The focus of this course will be on clinical applications of drug therapies relevant to nurse practitioner practice. Students will be given the opportunity to gain knowledge in order to integrate pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic concepts for a chosen client population/discipline in their clinical setting and practicums. Students will gain therapeutic knowledge that includes the mechanism of actions, usual dosages, absorption, distribution, metabolism, elimination, and therapeutic use of medications. Principles of management for side effects and drug interactions of medications frequently encountered by specialty and primary health care nurse practitioners will be reviewed and applied. Additionally, students will be provided with the opportunity to identify and utilize timely and appropriate drug information resources that are applicable to their daily practice. Legal and ethical responsibilities related to pharmacotherapeutic interventions are addressed.
This is a 3 credit hour course consisting of 3 lecture hours per week on Thursdays, 16:00 – 19:00, from September 5, 2017 until December 5, 2017. This contract runs from September 1, 2017 through December 22, 2017. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Graduate Studies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Development of teaching and learning activities related to the course
- Delivery and co-ordination of the course
- Assessment and evaluation of student learning
- Use of Bright Space for course delivery
- Responding to student queries about coursework
- Attending initial instruction with Instructional Learning Online services
- Participation in course discussions within the program
- Develop and administer examinations
- Submission of grades
- Follow up with students as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Candidates must hold a graduate degree in Nursing, or related field, with relevant expertise and teaching experience. PhD preferred.

- Lecturer for NURS5485.03 – Principles and Theories for Nurse Practitioner Practice (Winter term of the academic year 2017-2018)
This course will introduce all nurse practitioner students to a general healthcare focus of populations across the lifespan and in multiple clinical settings. This will consist of theories, terminology, point-of-care technology, assessment, diagnosis and treatment directed towards a population of all ages. Theories of family, change and adult learning will be presented to guide the nurse practitioner student in the development of a holistic plan of care for health promotion and disease prevention, health maintenance, health assessment, and acute and chronic disease management.
This is a 3 credit hour course consisting of 3 lecture hours per week on Thursdays, from 12:00 noon – 3:00pm, January 8, 2018 until April 10, 2018. This contract runs from January 1, 2018 through April 30, 2018. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Graduate Studies.
- Lecturer for NURS5734.03 – Principles of Pharmacotherapy for Nurse Practitioners (Winter term of the academic year 2017-2018)
This course focuses on core principles of pharmacotherapy relevant to all nurse practitioner practice. Pharmacotherapeutic problem solving approaches will be introduced and applied throughout the course. Effective and strategic use of drug and therapeutic information resources will be emphasized. Relevant issues to pharmacotherapeutic policy will be addressed. Principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics will be introduced and integrated throughout therapeutic content areas. Legal and ethical responsibilities related to prescriptive authority and pharmacotherapeutic interventions will be addressed.
This is a 3 credit hour course consisting of 3 lecture hours per week on Thursdays, from 16:00 – 19:00, January 8, 2018 until April 10, 2018. This contract runs from January 1, 2018 through April 30, 2018. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Graduate Studies.
