WORK ASSIGNMENT

Pending enrolment and budget, the History of Science and Technology Programme invites applications from qualified individuals to teach the following course:

HSTC2204.03W. The Darwinian Revolution.

Course description: “Arguably, the Darwinian Revolution marks the greatest revolution in our conception of nature and our place within it, deeply challenging received views on chance, teleology, history, the soul and nature. This class opens up the historical and philosophical background to the Darwinian revolution, the main episodes of that revolution and the consequences for contemporary moral, scientific and social theory. Emphasis will be placed on reading contemporary primary texts.”

The course is scheduled for Wednesdays, 6:35pm-9:25pm, Winter term 2015.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching 3 hours of classes per week, evaluating assignments, attending staff meetings, and holding office hours. If eligible, the candidate may be required to supervise a teaching assistant.

QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should possess, as a minimum requirement, a Master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, history and philosophy of science, or a relevant discipline or field of research. Some prior university-level teaching is required.

All applications should include a course proposal (including a course outline, reading and lecture schedule, and assignment evaluation scheme), curriculum vitae listing at least two references, and evidence of teaching effectiveness.
