Life Sciences Centre Roofing Remediation Project

Posted by Facilities Management on May 20, 2014 in Facilities Management

Installation of staging and fencing began last week for the LSC Roofing Remediation Project and construction activity is expected to continue until the end of August, weather depending.

This project involves repair of the roof surfaces on the Psychology, Biology and Oceanography wings of the LSC, as part of мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥â€™s ongoing program for campus renewal. All repair work will be conducted on the rooftops, though there will be ground level activity with deliveries, hoisting of materials onto the roofs, and collection and removal of debris from the site.

For safety reasons, ground level activity areas will be protected by construction/security fencing to accommodate a site trailer, hoisting areas, and waste containers. Some walkways and bike racks will be closed for the duration of the project. Care has been taken to limit the size of protected areas and minimize disruption of normal traffic flow.

The outdoor areas of campus that will have re-routed access due to fencing include the North Entrance of the Biology Building, the common space between the LSC and Henry Hicks Building, the East side of the Psychology Building and adjacent parking lot, and the Southwest corner of the Oceanography Building closest to Shirreff Hall. Any exits in the vicinity of work will be protected from above.

Building occupants can expect some construction noise but disruptive activity, such as drilling, is planned to occur outside of class time and other room bookings.

Project updates will be provided by direct email to department administrators, through notices in Today@Dal and on the Facilities Management website.
