POSITION: TA180 (approx. 90 hours in Fall term and 90 hours in Winter term)

WORK PERIOD: Sept 9, 2013- April 30, 2014

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Faculty of Science / Integrated Science Program
PAY RATE: As per CUPE agreement

WORK ASSIGNMENT: Assist the instructor, Dr. Brad Frankland, with the Statistics component of the Integrated Science Program (SCIE 1505.18). Includes assistance with: (1) Developing the new integrated Statistics curriculum; (2) Preparing and posting online Statistical modules for the class; (3) Developing and teaching Statistics exercises using Excel and R in computer labs 1030-1130 on Tuesdays in Fall; (4) Marking weekly assignments and occasional problem sets, returning within one week; (5) Attending other Integrated Science exercises (Biology, Earth Science, and Psychology) when students collect or analyse data, on occasional Thursday mornings, 0900-1130, and on occasional Friday afternoons (1330-1630 in Fall and 1430-1730 in Winter); (6) Supporting the experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation of results of first-year research projects during the Winter term; and (7) Evaluating these student projects.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Enthusiastic student with an advanced degree completed or in progress in Statistics or another field of science with extensive research and/or work experience in Statistics. Candidates with previous experience teaching statistics to undergraduate students will have priority. Must be proficient in Excel and R for both analysis and graphing.
