Term Industry Research Chair Posting: Faculty of Agriculture

Applications are invited for an Industry Research Chair (Assistant/Associate Professor) in Beef Genomics (5-year term position) with rank and salary appropriate to qualifications and experience within the Department of Plant and Animal Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, located on the мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ Agricultural campus in Truro, Nova Scotia. The Industry Research Chair (IRC) in beef is primarily responsible for research and technology development in feed efficiencies in beef cattle, with particular emphasis on grass/forage feeding regimes. The Industry Research Chair will develop an annual work plan, including goals and objectives, in consultation with an Industry Advisory Committee. The IRC collaborates with other faculty members of мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥, colleagues in the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture, the Nova Scotia Cattle Producers and other researchers in the region. He/she will also co-operate with the agricultural community with similar programs in Canada! and abroad, and communicates with agriculture industry stakeholders the results of the research and technology transfer projects in a timely manner. The IRC will supervise graduate students, and teach subject material relevant to his/her specialty in the Faculty of Agriculture.

A PhD is required. The subject area of the PhD should be in the area of animal (preferably bovine) genomics, genetics and breeding. Applicants must have extensive knowledge of genetics and animal breeding, particularly as applicable to the beef industry in Eastern Canada and grass/forage feeding regimes; a record of independent research and scholarly publications is required, as well as a demonstrated ability to develop research funding proposals and build a successful research program. Knowledge and experience of the beef sector in particular is highly desirable, as is experience working in multi-disciplinary groups and with industry partners. The successful candidate will also possess, resourcefulness, innovation, leadership skills, self-motivation, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
