Please join us for our April 19th Lunch & Learn series directed at those working in the online teaching environment. Our speakers will be Patricia Farry who will be discussing "Supporting Mature Students in Online Courses" and Dr. Jennifer Stamp discussing "Using Learning Outcomes: Tales from a Former Skeptic".
Topic 1: Supporting Mature Students in Online Courses
Learners who have been away from an academic setting for a while and who have not used technology in learning can face significant challenges in online courses. The School of Social Work has developed and variety of online student resources to support students so that they can be successful in online learning. Join us for a discussion on our approach to supporting mature students.
Speaker:
Patricia Farry, Distance Education Coordinator
School of Social Work
Topic 2: Using Learning Outcomes: Tales from a Former Skeptic
Developing learning outcomes for teaching is not always met with great enthusiasm, since many seasoned instructors have managed to teach just fine without them. However, as I recently learned, they can be immensely useful to help professor and student focus on relevant skills and material. I will give an example of how I recently applied learning outcomes at the beginning of one of my popular lab activities (measuring behaviour in rats on cocaine), and why I think they are an important, and underutilized, teaching and learning tool.
Speaker:
Jennifer Stamp, PhD, Dept of Psychology
