Men鈥檚 Volleyball

The UNB Varsity Reds took home the AUS championship on Friday night beating the Tigers 3-1 in the third and final match of the best of three series in front of a packed Dalplex crowd.

UNB came out strong grabbing the first set 25-20. Samuel Alves closed out the set with a big kill.

Women鈥檚 Basketball

The women鈥檚 basketball team was eliminated from the AUS playoffs on Friday night, falling 69-56 in their quarter-final matchup against the Cape Breton Capers.

Men鈥檚 Basketball

The men鈥檚 basketball team won their second straight AUS title over the weekend, defeating the UPEI Panthers 87-85 in the championship game at the Scotiabank Centre.

On Saturday evening the Tigers beat the Saint Mary鈥檚 Huskies 75-74 in dramatic fashion booking their ticket to the AUS championship final.

Trailing 37-32 at the half against the Huskies, the Tigers dug deep completing the comeback. Ritchie Kanza Mata hit a pair of clutch free throws down the stretch.

Kashrell Lawrence was the Subway Player of the Game with 31 points and six rebounds.

Sunday afternoon鈥檚 matchup between the Tigers and Panthers was another thriller. The Panthers came out strong in the first quarter led by Tyler Scott who had 10 points in the opening 10 minutes.

After two quarters of play, the Panthers led 87-85. The Tigers started to find their groove in the third quarter outscoring the Panthers 25-20, taking a 61-57 lead into the fourth quarter.

Ritchie Kanza Mata came up clutch once again hitting some key free throws and buckets in the final minute icing the Tigers AUS championship.

Kanza Mata and Kashrell Lawrence were named to the championship all-star and Lawrence was named championship MVP for the second straight year.

The Tigers now advance to the 2016 Arcelormittal Dofasco CIS Men's Basketball Final 8, hosted by the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C., March 17-20.
