Women’s Basketball
The women’s basketball team closed out their regular season schedule over the weekend with a 68-58 loss to the Cape Breton Capers. Despite a five-game losing streak to end the season, the Tigers managed to hold on to final AUS playoff spot.
It was a closely contested game as the Tigers only trailed by four points heading into the fourth quarter. Jalynn Skeir took control of the game in the final frame putting up 12 out of the Capers 20 points.
Diedre Alexander and Ainsley MacIntyre continued to lead the Tigers offence with 13 and 10 points respectively.
мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥â€™s quarter-final game will be a re-match of Friday night’s pairing as the Tigers and the Capers will square off at the Scotiabank Centre on Friday, March 4 at 3pm.
Men’s Basketball
The men’s basketball team could not pull out a win in their final regular season game against the Cape Breton Capers, falling 85-84 in overtime. With the regular season all wrapped up, the Tigers clinched first place in AUS and will receive a semi-final bye.
мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ came out strong on Friday night, opening up with a five-point lead by the end of the first quarter.
The sixth-place Capers who are riding a three-game winning streak into the playoffs gave the Tigers everything they could handle, battling back and forcing an overtime frame.
Jack MacAulay hit a game winning jump shot in the dying seconds of the overtime frame to take the victory.
Kashrell Lawrence may have had his best performance of the season with 30 points and five rebounds.
мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ will take on the winner of Friday night’s Saint Mary’s vs. UNB AUS championship quarterfinal in semi-final action Saturday at 6:30pm at the Scotiabank Centre.
Men’s Volleyball
The men’s volleyball team lived to fight another day, tying up the best of three series against UNB with a 3-2 (18-25, 25-21, 25-17, 23-25, 15-9) win on Saturday afternoon in Fredericton.
The Varsity Reds grabbed the first set but the Tigers battled back grabbing the next two sets. UNB forced a decisive fifth set but мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ came up clutch taking the final set 15-9.
Matthew Donovan was dominant with a game high 19 kills. On the defensive end it was Adam Sandeson with 21 digs. Setter Jonathan Macdonald was named the Subway player of the match.
The two teams will face off again in a winner takes all scenario Friday, March 4 at 7pm at Dalplex.
Swimming
The Tigers competed at the CIS championships over the past weekend hosted by Laval University. Overall it was a strong effort for the Tigers as the women’s team placed fifth and the men’s team finished sixth.
Katie Webster led the Tigers with two bronze medals, setting personal-best times in both the 400m and 800m freestyle events. Phoebe Lenderyou also found her way to the podium, setting an AUS record in the 50m backstroke. She also had a fourth place finish in the 100m and 200m backstroke events.
At the end of the meet, Jeremy Ryant received the CIS Student-Athlete Community Service Award.

Women’s Volleyball
Rick Scott and the women’s volleyball team are AUS champions once again after defeating the Memorial Sea-Hawks 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Acadia University. This is the Tigers fourth-straight trip to the CIS championship.
In the semifinal matchup against the Saint Mary’s Huskies the Tigers cruised to a straight sets victory. Anna Dunn-Suen led the Tigers with 11 kills.
On Sunday afternoon, the Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 set lead but the Sea-Hawks managed to take the third set 25-21. мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ had a strong response taking the fourth set 25-17.
"Our team did an amazing job. For the most part, I don't think a single person looked at the score", said championship MVP and all-star Anna Dunn-Suen . "We were very focused and they (Memorial) played amazing in the third set. We kept to the process and good things happened."
Anna Dunn-Suen and Abby Czenze were both selected to the AUS championship team, while Dunn-Suen was named the MVP
The Tigers have two weeks to prepare for the CIS championship at Brandon University.
Track and Field
The Tigers took home two more AUS championship banners as both the women’s and men’s team won their respective titles.
On day one of the AUS championships Colleen Wilson, Michaela Walker and Morgan Hawkes swept the medal positions in the women's 1500m run. Shannay Beals took home gold in the 60m dash.
Chantelle Robbertse won her second consecutive indoor pentathlon event, beating the AUS record she set at last year's championship.
Sarah Taplin won her second straight AUS triple jump title, while Macayla Cullen took home gold in high jump once again.
Will Russell placed first in the men’s 1500m followed closely by Jake Wing. Matthew Coolen had a record setting performance in the 60m dash. Jordan Bruce won the men's long jump with a leap of 6.72m.
Thrower Adam Karakolis won the shot put with a throw of 15.68m, setting a new AUS record previously set by StFX's Greg Hadley in 2007.
The success on day two continued into Sunday as Jessica Shannon was the first Tiger to find the top of the podium, winning the 60m hurdles.
Colleen Wilson and company were at it again this time sweeping the women’s 3000m race.
Matthew Coolen added another gold to his trophy case winning the men’s 60m hurdles, setting a new AUS record. Jake Wing placed first in the men’s 1000m while Jordan Bruce captured his second gold medal of the weekend in men’s triple jump.
Adam Karakolis won the weight throw with a 16.20m toss, while Devin Errington won the high jump clearing the bar at 1.96m.
Jake Wing was named the male track championship MVP while Matt Coolen was named the AUS rookie of the year and track athlete of the year. On the women's side, Morgan Hawkes won the student-athlete community service award and Sara Taplin was the field athlete of the year. Head coach Rich Lehman was named both the male and female coach of the year.
The Tigers have a couple weeks off before the CIS Championships hosted by York University that runs March 10-12.
