Men’s Basketball
The men’s basketball team headed to Ontario this past weekend for two pre-season games against the Waterloo Warriors and the McMaster Marauders. On Friday night the Tigers came out on top against the Warriors with an 83-70 win.
Ritchie Kanza Mata led the way for the Tigers with 14 points, four rebounds and three assists.
After the first half the Tigers held just a two-point lead but a strong third quarter propelled the Tigers to the 13-point victory. Coach Plato utilized the whole bench on Friday with every player receiving playing time.
On Saturday, the Tigers headed south to Hamilton to take on the McMaster Marauders. The Tigers found themselves down early as the Marauders held a 44-19 lead at half. The boys were unable to crawl back into the game falling 81-61.
Cedric Sango had 14 points in the outing.
The Tigers are now 3-1 in pre-season action after the weekend trip to Ontario. The boys will be back on the court on Friday, October 16 when they take on Saint Mary’s at the StFX Invitational.
Men’s Hockey
The Tigers started their 2015-2016 AUS men’s hockey regular season against Halifax rivals, the Saint Mary’s Huskies on Saturday night at the Forum. Saint Mary’s scored just 33 seconds into the game en route to a 4-1 victory.
The early tally from Bradley Greene was the lone goal of the first period. The Huskies came out flying in the second period scoring another early period goal and stretching the lead to two.
Fabian Walsh gave the Tigers some life scoring half way through the second frame cutting the Saint Mary’s lead to 2-1. The comeback was short lived though as Mitchell Maynard scored seconds later, restoring the two-goal lead.
The Huskies would add another goal in the third period.
