Mawio’mi – it means "gathering" in Mi'kmaq culture, and signifies one of the most important community events for our region's founding peoples.
For six years now мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥, with the leadership of the мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ Native Student Association, has hosted an annual Mawio'mi (or "powwow"), bringing together both native and non-native individuals to embrace the practices and history of the indigenous peoples of Halifax. This year's Mawio'mi began with a flag-raising ceremony on the Studley Quad, featured a traditional meal and continued with drumming and dancing all afternoon in the Studley Gym. Photographer Nick Pearce was there to catch the celebrations.
