It’s that time of year again. Men’s upper lips are left untamed, all in support of Movember. Nowhere is the campaign more evident than on university campuses like мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ where students jump on the chance to grow a ‘stache in honour of men’s health. From Killam Library to Dalplex, men are growing out their facial hair in all shapes, sizes and varying quality. A number of the Tigers athletes have committed to the cause whole-heartedly and are actively raising funds for both prostate cancer and men’s health initiatives.
A Tigers facebook campaign
Spearheading a particularly creative way to earn donations is athlete Rob McCulloch and the men’s volleyball team. Through the use of Facebook, McCulloch has started a picture-a-day campaign to track the progress of his moustache. Along with daily updates and witty puns, Rob posts his mug shot for friends and family to see in hopes of getting as much exposure as possible. Thanks to the generous support of his teammates and coaches, every time a picture is ‘liked’ or ‘shared’ a 50-cent donation will be made.
With over 1,000 likes to date, this innovative Movember campaign has raised approximately $500 for men’s health and the moustaches are only getting better. Guests have also been welcome in the photos. Recently Tigers volleyball teammates Elliot Cohrs, Robbie Johnson, and Jonny MacDonald showcased their moustache growth after celebrating back-to-back wins over Memorial University.
Visit the Tigers Facebook page and check out Rob and his teammates’ newest photo to show your support for men’s health! He has yet to reach 100 ‘likes’ on a given day but with your help sharing the picture it can easily be accomplished.
Other мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ teams have been contributing to the cause and at the November 17 men’s basketball game the Tigers, with the help of men’s soccer, raised over $1200 for Prostate Cancer Canada.
Don't miss your chance to donate
Last year the Canadian Movember campaign raised $41.9 million and with the continued effort that our athletes and other participants are putting forth, the Movember initiative is sure to surpass that milestone this year.
With only days remaining in November the campaign is almost over! If you would like to make a direct donation to Rob McCulloch’s Movember cause visit his .
