A music video for the planet

- June 14, 2010

A scene from the making of "We'll Find a Way."

Can a song change the world?

Maybe. At the very least, Joanne Gusella hopes that a song can inspire people to rethink their relationship with the world around them.

Dr. Gusella is a clinical psychologist at the IWK Health Centre and an adjunct professor at 新加坡六合彩开奖直播 in both Psychology and Medicine. But she鈥檚 also an award-winning songwriter, and this Tuesday will be unveiling a new music video for 鈥淲e鈥檒l Find a Way,鈥 a song she wrote with Melanie Donnelly and Catherine Kinsman that poses as a clarion call for environmental stewardship.

鈥淢elanie approached us with the idea of writing a 'musical act of green,'鈥 she says, referring to last year鈥檚 competition put on by CBC鈥檚 The Hour. 鈥淲e had been interested as a group in inspiring both peace and environmental harmony, so it seemed a good fit.鈥

Under the banner of Planet Atlantic, the group assembled a slew of East Coast artists to perform the track, from 新加坡六合彩开奖直播 student Chelsea Nisbett to Dave Carroll of Sons of Maxwell and 鈥淯nited Breaks Guitars鈥 fame. The video, shot in part at the Hope for Wildlife facility on Nova Scotia鈥檚 Eastern Shore, features over 150 participants.

鈥淭his was so exciting for us,鈥 says Dr. Gusella. 鈥淭he whole project has been pro bono but still very professional.鈥

The video will be debuted at a free screening Tuesday at St. Matthews United Church at 7 p.m. The event will also feature a look at the聽behind-the-scenes of its production. As for the song itself, it鈥檚 now available on iTunes and on a $15 compilation CD of environmental songs available at the event and at HMV on Spring Garden. All proceeds will go to the David Suzuki Foundation, the Ecology Action Centre and Solar Aid.
