Congratulations to Zhizhang (David) Chen (Engineering) who was elevated to IEEE Fellow, effective January 1, 2010, for contributions to time-domain electromagnetic modeling and simulation.聽The grade of Fellow recognizes unusual distinction in the profession and is conferred by the Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) fields of interest.

Inudstrial engineering students at the 2010 IIE Canada Student Conference held in Windsor, Ont.

Congratulations to the 新加坡六合彩开奖直播 Industrial Engineering students who recently returned from the 2010 Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) Canada Student Conference held January 14-17 in Windsor, Ontario.聽This conference is attended by students from every university in Canada offering Industrial Engineering.聽Matt Hardy, Andy Ngae, Bryce Everist and Damian Daniels took home 1st place in the Theoretical Problem Solving Competition.聽In the Team Card Sorting Competition (a Work Design problem), the team of Jeff MacNeil, Nick Krauch, Jeff Mosher and Matt Antolin won first place overall. Individually, Jeff MacNeil came in second, and Jeff Mosher was fourth.聽The Design Competition team of Josh Keel, Felipe Gonzalez, Richard Joseph and Nadia Dajani placed second.聽

Congratulations to Ashley Julian (Political Science and Sociology & Social Anthropology) who was chosen, out of hundreds of applicants across Canada, to represent her nation/ancestry for the Vancouver 2010 Indigenous Youth Gathering. Hosted by the Four Host First Nations (FHFN) and the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC), the Gathering will bring together more than 300 First Nations, Inuit and M茅tis youth (ages 19-29) from across Canada.聽Successful applicants are identified as emerging leaders and ambassadors for their communities.

Congratulations to Wade Junek (Psychiatry) who was presented with the award for Best Poster by a full member for the 2009 scientific meeting of the Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Congratulations to Shelley Lang (Graduate student, Biology), winner of the 2009 Canadian Council of University Biology Chairs (CCUBC) Graduate Student Research Prize.聽Her ground breaking thesis paper, 鈥淩epeatability in Components of Lactation Performance and the Consequences for Maternal Reproductive Success in Grey Seals (Halichoerus grypus),鈥 has recently been published in Ecology.聽This prize is awarded annually to honour individuals who make an outstanding contribution to the promotion of biology in Canada, through activities encouraging popular interest in science or developing science abilities.

Congratulations to Veronique MacKenzie (Theatre, Social Work student) upon being awarded one of the five Established Artist Recognition Awards by Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage and Creative Nova Scotia.聽 Presented to artists in mid-career, the award comes with $5,000 in prize money.

Congratulations to Lawrence MacNeil (Family Medicine), Randy MacKinnon (Family Medicine) and John Keddy (Family Medicine) upon receiving 2009 Canada鈥檚 Family Physicians of the Year Award from the College of Family Physicians of Canada.聽Canada鈥檚 Family Physicians of the Year are nominated by their peers for 鈥減roviding exceptional care to their patients; making meaningful contributions to the health and well-being of their communities; dedicating themselves as researchers and educators of future generations of family doctors; and exemplifying the four principles of Family Medicine (they must be skilled clinicians, community-based, act as a resource to a practice population, recognize the central importance of the doctor/patient relationship).

Congratulations to Ron O鈥橠or (Biology, OTN), winner of the 2009 Canadian Council of University Biology Chairs (CCUBC) Science Promotion Prize. In addition, Dr. O鈥橠or was named Canada鈥檚 Environmental Scientist of the Year by Canadian Geographic in 2009, recognition based on his dual roles in Ocean Tracking Network and Census of Marine Life (CoML).

Congratulations to Ingrid Sketris (Pharmacy) upon being elected by her peers as a Distinguished Practitioner to the National Academies of Practice in Pharmacy, due to her 鈥渟ignificant and enduring contributions to health care practice.鈥 Dr. Sketris is only the second Canadian pharmacist ever elected to this American Board which is an interdisciplinary board to advise health care policy makers.聽Dr. Sketris has also been elected as a Board member of Research Canada, an Alliance for Health Discovery whose mission is to improve the health and prosperity of Canadians by championing Canada鈥檚 global leadership in health research.

Congratulations to Lynn Stodola (Music), recipient of the first CFMTA Hugheen Ferguson Distinguished Teacher Award by the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers.聽The award honours Registered Music Teachers who have made significant contributions to the art of music and the profession of music teaching.

Congratulations to the Corporate Securities Moot Team鈥Lia Bruschetta, Rob DuMerton, Ben Heller and Breann Kirincich鈥攐n聽its success last weekend at the 20th Annual Davies Ward Phillips Vineberg Canadian Corporate Securities Moot in Toronto. The team competed in Toronto against teams from聽10 other common law schools from across Canada, and placed second overall in the preliminary round of the competition. They had the honour of arguing in the final round before Justices Feldman and Blair of the Ontario Court of Appeal and Vice-Chair Turner of the Ontario Securities Commission and performed impressively. They聽placed second overall in the competition.聽Additional honours went to Breann Kirincich and Lia Bruschetta who were the second and third placed oralists, respectively, out of the 44 competitors.
