Congratulations to Jafna Cox (Cardiology) who was appointed the Heart and Stroke Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Research Outcomes.聽Supported by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia in partnership with the QE II Hospital Foundation, the Chair is designed to complement a dynamic and interdisciplinary team with strengths in research into access to health services, outcomes, population health and cell biology.

Congratulations to Gerri Frager (Pediatrics) upon being named the 2009 Balfour Mount Visiting Professorship in Palliative Medicine.聽 The professorship was established by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in collaboration with the Robert Pope Foundation of Nova Scotia, to bring to health sciences faculties in Canada distinguished international lecturers in palliative care.
Congratulations to Greg Hutton (graduate student, Library and Information Studies) upon winning the New England Chapter of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIST) Best Paper in Information Science Award for his paper, 鈥淪cientific Grey Literature in a Digital Age:聽 Measuring its Use and Influence in an Evolving Information Economy.鈥澛 Greg also received the Nova Scotian Institute of Science Graduate Student Writing Prize, awarded for the best paper written by a student in a Masters or Doctoral program enrolled in a degree program at a Nova Scotian university, for his paper, 鈥淯nderstanding Influence of Scientific Information in the Digital Age:聽 A Study of the Grey Literature of a United Nations Advisory Group.鈥

Congratulations to Gwynedd Pickett (Neurosurgery) upon being awarded the World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology New Generation grand prize for best research presented by someone within five years of completing their Fellowship.聽 The winning abstract was, 鈥淎natomy of the anterior communicating complex:聽 relationship to aneurysm recurrence and implications for follow-up.鈥澛 The award provides financial support to travel to a leading centre in another country to learn further specialized techniques in interventional neuroradiology/endovascular neurosurgery.
Congratulations to Graeme Rocker (Respirology), recipient of the 2009 Roger C. Bone Advances in End-of-Life Care Award.聽 The award was established by the American College of Chest Physicians to recognize members who have demonstrated leadership in end of life care.
Congratulations to Tyler Rozicki (student, Architecture) who placed second for the 2009 Berkeley Prize.聽 The Berkeley Prize competition was established in 1998, made possible by the generous give of Judith Lee Stronach to the Department of Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley.聽 Each year, the prize committee selects a topic and poses a question based on that topic.聽 Students enrolled in any undergraduate architecture program throughout the world are invited to submit a 500-word essay proposal responding to the question.聽From this pool of essays, approximately 25 are selected as particularly promising.聽These semi-finalists are then asked to submit a 2,500-word essay expanding on their proposal.聽Five to eight of the best essays are selected and sent to a jury of international academics and architects to select the winners.
