When Katie Goulet tried to reach a professor for permission to take a course last summer, time was not on her side.

鈥淎fter calling and e-mailing, I got a response saying he was on vacation,鈥 she says. 鈥淏y the time I reached him, the class was full and I was not able to take it.鈥

The Registrar鈥檚 Office is implementing some important changes to student class registration to make the process more convenient and less stressful for students. Starting this year, returning students can register beginning March 17 instead of during the summer months. The timetable and calendar will also be made available earlier than ever this year; students can start building their course schedules as early as March 3.

The second-year arts student from Toronto says she and others like her will appreciate the earlier registration date for a variety of reasons.

鈥淚鈥檝e had friends who forgot to register on the correct date because they had been on vacation and it slipped their minds,鈥 says Ms. Goulet. 鈥淎lso, I鈥檝e known people who were travelling and were not able to access either a computer or an Internet connection that was fast enough to accommodate the online registration process.鈥

Students can now pick their courses and get registered for the coming year before leaving for vacation and summer jobs.

It鈥檚 a change students are welcoming: 鈥淚 think it鈥檚 great because the timing is more convenient 鈥 not just for me, but I think for most people.鈥
