Professor of Saxophone Chris Mitchell is nominated for an East Coast Music Award.
The saxophonist and jazz educator is nominated with his band Tonic in the category of best jazz recording. Other members of Tonic drummer Dave Burton, bassist Jamie Gatti and the late Doug Riley.
Tonic's self-titled collection of contemporary jazz, funk and fusion tunes will duke it out with "Nova Scotia's most outrageous party band" Gypsophilia and its debut CD, Minor Hope.聽Gypsophilia has several Dal music alumni in the group, including Gina Burgess, Dani Oore, and Adam Fine.
