MATHEMATICS PROGRAMS

罢丑别听mathematics division聽offers programs leading to MSc and PhD degrees in the following areas: algebra, approximation theory, category theory, convex geometry, differential equations, functional analysis, graph theory, number theory, numerical analysis, operator theory, optimization, general relativity theory, stochastic modelling, and topology.

Length of Program
MSc - typical time to complete is 1-2 years
PhD - typical time to complete is 4 years

MASTERS DEGREE PROGRAM - Mathematics

At least six 3-credit courses at the graduate level must be taken, chosen in consultation with a department advisor. Students whose background is considered to be weak will be required to complete other appropriate classes. In addition, attendance and participation is expected in at least one of the research seminar series offered in the department. A satisfactory thesis must be completed, and an oral presentation of the work must be given in a seminar. There is an MSc program which specializes in applied and computational mathematics. Consult the department for details.

PHD DEGREE PROGRAM - Mathematics

A comprehensive examination must be written within one calendar year of initial registration in the PhD program.
Enrollment in at least four 3-credit graduate courses and participation in a research seminar are required. Preparation and defence of a research thesis is required.

NOTE: Students interested in pursuing a degree program in Applied and Computational Mathematics designed to prepare them for the work environment should consider the following classes:
