Career Path
For six months after graduation I was an Environmental Analyst at PSC Analytical (now Maxxam Analytics), Bedford, NS.  My main role was following standard operating procedures to monitor for pollutants in soil and water samples. I then became a Technical Officer in the Biological Mass Spectrometry Lab at the Institute for Marine Biosciences, NRC, Halifax. My roles included performing organic synthesis, developing extraction procedures for proteomics analysis and developing mass spectrometry methods for the detection and characterization of proteins. This was a research-based position and I held it for twelve months. Since 2005 I have been the Manager of the Proteomics Core Facility at мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥. In this role I analyze proteins, and mixtures thereof, using liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. This is a research-based position, and I work closely with many investigators across the university and beyond. My time is split between experimental bench/instrumental work and teaching/consulting.

Chemistry in Action
I really enjoy working with a variety of researchers from throughout the medical school, and contributing to many areas of ground-breaking research – I frequently experience how many different fields overlap with chemistry in the life science world.

Last Words
My chemistry background is invaluable to me in the world of science research. My chemistry degree program at мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ was very enjoyable and it served as a great springboard into many corners of science.
