Entry requirements

To gain acceptance into this combined degree program, you must satisfy the entrance requirements of both our JD program and the . For admission, you must apply to both the Schulich School of Law and the School of Public Administration individually. You may submit LSAT results in lieu of GMAT results.

Order of classes

A total of 13 half credit Public Administration courses are required. The combined degree program is structured as follows:

Year 1
  • 听First year courses of the MPA program (24 credit hours听required courses)
Year 2
Year 3

MPA:

9 credit hours from the graduate level electives from the MPA program (One of听 these could be听PUAD 6855, typically completed during the summer after the first or second year of the program, as agreed upon with program coordinators.)

NOTE: Students may choose to do a 3-credit hour elective (graduate level course) from outside the MPA course offerings. This course must be approved by the MPA Program Manager.

JD听(in total 23-25 credits)

  • .05: Constitutional Law听
  • .005: Second Year Moot听
  • .005: Second Year Moot听
  • .025: Civil Procedure听
  • .025: Civil Procedure听
  • 12 - 14 credit hours of other courses from the JD program (inclusive of a LAWS major paper course)
Year 4

MPA:

  • 6 credit hours of electives from the MPA program.
  • 听Students may choose to do a 3 credit hour elective course from outside the MPA course offerings.听 This course must be approved by the MPA Program Manager

JD: (in total 23-25 credits)

  • .02 Legal Profession
  • 21-23 credit hours of JD electives (inclusive of major paper course).听

Students who wish to pursue the听PUAD 6855: Internship should note that the first year of the PD program (听and听) is a prerequisite for the internship course.
