On April  11, 2019 the Recreation and Leisure Studies Division hosted their first showcase event.  This was an opportunity to showcase the program and the exciting and innovative work of our students, faculty, and alumni.  Special guests included:  Dean of the Faculty of Health - Cheryl Kozey (Acting), Crystal Watson (Executive Director of Recreation Nova Scotia), мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ Recreation Association President (Jenna MacEachern), and members of the Therapeutic Recreation Program Advisory Committee.

During the event, faculty (Dr. Karen Gallant, Kimberley Woodford, Dr. Barb Hamilton-Hinch) spoke about their research and knowledge translation activities.  As well, several of the honours students shared their research findings including Marissa Buchanan who conducted research on the student led recreation orientation.

As well, it served as a celebration for the Therapeutic Recreation (TR) program to become the first accredited TR program in Canada.  Dr. Jerry Singleton (retired faculty member) spoke about the opportunities this will provide for мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥.

Dr. Susan Hutchinson (Division head, Recreation and Leisure Studies) indicated that this event will serve as an opportunity to better engage on an ongoing basis with our various supporters.   She encouraged people to contact her if interested in guest lecturing, identifying critical research questions of relevance to their profession, serving on an advisory board, or bringing forward other ideas for collaboration.
