Dr. Brendan Leung and Dr. Nader Hamdan

The Faculty of Dentistry is delighted to welcome two new faculty members to the team. Dr. Brendan Leung joined the Department of Applied Oral Sciences on April 1 as assistant professor with a specialization in biomaterials science and tissue engineering. Dr. Nader Hamdan joined the division of periodontics in the Department of Dental Clinical Sciences on July 1.

Dr. Brendan Leung
Dr. Leung completed graduate training in biomedical engineering at the University of Toronto and post-doc research on micro-fabrication technologies at the University of Michigan. This year he will teach part of the second year biomaterial course. He has set up a lab in room 2116, where he and DDS2 student Jakob Nickerson spent the summer developing 3-D epithelial culture and quantitative fluorescent epithelium integrity assay.

Dr. Nader Hamdan
Dr. Hamdan has a BDS from Jordan University of Science and Technology, an MSc in dental sciences from McGill University, and an MDENT Periodontics from the University of Manitoba. He will teach both undergraduate and graduate level periodontics courses, including periodontology IV, instruct students in the graduate perio clinic, and help third-year perio residents prepare for their board exams. In addition, Dr. Hamdan will be collaborating with McGill University on a research PhD candidate’s project and also working to develop a new research project on patient-based outcomes relating to the practice of periodontics.
