The Department is pleased to announce that co-PIs Peter Berman (UBC), Sara Allin (U of T), and Katherine Fierlbeck (Dal) have won a CIHR project grant looking at the institutional, political, organizational, and governance factors that underlie the wide variation in the effectiveness of governmental responses to COVID-19. The $612,000 grant will use a mixed-methods case study approach with an innovative focus on how these upstream determinants influence governments’ effective activation of public health systems and capacities during a crisis. This study incorporates key CIHR priority interests in research to strengthen public health systems in Canada and spans across four provinces: British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia.
