Minors in French

Enhance your degree

Can't fit a major in French into your degree? A minor in French allows for a level of specialization in French听in addition to听your major degree program(s) and is an excellent way to enhance your degree.

We offer three different minors for students to choose from.

1. Minor in French

Mineure en fran莽ais

A minimum of 18 and a maximum of 27 credit hours beyond the 1000 level, including French 2045 X/Y.06

At least 6 of the 18 credit hours must be above the 2000 level.

2. Minor in French Literature and Culture

Mineure en litt茅rature et culture fran莽aises

A minimum of 18 and a maximum of 27 credit hours beyond the 1000 level, including:

  • French 2201.03 and French 2202.03

And any 3 credit hours from the Medieval/Early Modern Literature and Culture courses below:

  • FREN 3225.03
  • FREN 3300.03
  • FREN 3400.03
  • FREN 3500.03
  • FREN 3600.03
  • FREN 4300.03
  • FREN 4301.03
  • FREN 4401.03
  • FREN 4500.03 
  • FREN 4550.03  
  • FREN 4600.03

And any 3 credit hours from the Modern/Contemporary Literature and Culture courses below:

  • FREN 3101.03
  • FREN 3700.03
  • FREN 3730.03
  • FREN 3750.03
  • FREN 3800.03
  • FREN 3810.03
  • FREN 4700.03
  • FREN 4701.03
  • FREN 4710.03
  • FREN 4801.03

And any 3 credit hours from the Canadian and International Francophonie courses below:

  • FREN 3150.03
  • FREN 3203.03
  • FREN 3811.03
  • FREN 3900.03
  • FREN 3910.03
  • FREN 4811.03
  • FREN 4902.03
  • FREN 4903.03
  • FREN 4904.03

And any 3 credit hours from any of the courses listed above or FREN2021.03 or FREN2022.03 (strongly recommended for students not taking FREN2045XY.06).

3. Minor in French: Linguistics and Translation

Mineure en fran莽ais: linguistique et traduction

A minimum of 18 and a maximum of 27 credit hours beyond the 1000-level, including:

  • FREN 2020.03 or FREN 2075.03

And any 15 credit hours from:

  • FREN 3017.03  
  • FREN 3021.03
  • FREN 3022.03
  • FREN 3026.03
  • FREN 4011.03
  • FREN 4013.03
  • FREN 4014.03
  • FREN 4017.03

Note: Not all courses are offered each year. Please consult with the timetable for courses offered.Courses given in English and French 2005 X/Y.06听are not admissible. The Minors in French cannot be combined with a Major in French.
