Harmonized Scholarship Process
The Harmonized Scholarship Process allows for incoming and current students to apply for several Faculty of Graduate Studies-managed scholarships using a single online application, the complete list of which can be found on Faculty of Graduate Studies Funding application process page.
A. David Crowe Graduate Scholarship
Dr. Crowe was a graduate of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College (BSc), McGill University (MSc), and Cornell University (PhD). He worked in Extension with the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture, and thereafter as the as the Head of Pomology at the Agriculture Canada Kentville Research Station. Dr. Crowe established this scholarship – valued at $25,000 per year – as a legacy to recognize the important role that advanced education plays in the agricultural industry, and to provide opportunities for agricultural students to further their education.
This award is intended to attract outstanding students into a program of studies leading to the PhD degree at the Faculty of Agriculture, мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥; if there is no suitable PhD candidate, an MSc student will be eligible.
Students must have applied for, or intend to apply for full-time admission to an eligible graduate program. Recipients of this scholarship must begin full-time PhD (or MSc) academic study at мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ in the academic year for which it has been awarded.
Preference will be given to candidates intending to live and work in Atlantic Canada.
The award must be taken up within the first year of the degree program.
The scholarship will be renewable (subject to an annual progress review, first-class standing required) for a maximum of 3 years for a PhD student, or 2 years for a MSc student.
The award is valued at $25,000 for a twelve-month academic year.
Candidates who hold other scholarships of any kind, including scholarships internal and external to мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥, will receive the David Crowe Entrance Scholarship as a "top-up award" to their other scholarship, the total not exceeding $25,000 per academic year or $8,333 per term.
The award is tenable only at мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥.
Fees are not waived and must be paid out of the award.
Application and annual renewal request deadline extended to April 30, 2024

BMO Financial Group Graduate Scholarship
BMO Financial Group created the BMO Financial Group Graduate Scholarship in Agriculture to support the attraction and retention of top graduate students to the Faculty of Agriculture, мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥. This scholarship will be instrumental in the development of the next generation of researchers in agriculture. This scholarship will provide one or more award(s) per year to a top student(s). The number of awards and the amount (up to $25,000) of each scholarship will be at the discretion of the Graduate Studies Committee.
This award is intended to attract outstanding students into a program of studies leading to a graduate degree (MSc or PhD) at the Faculty of Agriculture, мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥. The recipient will have shown academic and research excellence.
Students must have applied for, or intend to apply for full-time admission to an eligible graduate program. Recipients of this scholarship must begin full-time graduate academic study at мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ in the academic year for which it has been awarded.

Lucky Bean Foundation Graduate Scholarships
The Lucky Bean Foundation created this scholarship to support the attraction and retention of high achieving graduate students enrolled in MSc and PhD programs at the мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ Faculty of Agriculture. These scholarships are intended to help develop excellence in the next generation of agricultural researchers. MSc students receive $35,000 per year for up to two years, and PhD students receive $30,000 per year for up to three years.
Application and/or annual renewal documents must be submitted by June 30, 2024

Travel Scholarships & Grants
Paul C. Harris Travel Scholarship
The Paul C. Harris Travel Scholarship can be awarded to full-time graduate students in a Master’s or Doctoral program in the Faculty of Agriculture only. In order to be eligible, students must present a poster or paper based on the results of their graduate thesis research at a national or international scholarly meeting or conference. A student is eligible for one travel scholarship per degree, and the student must be registered in the term when applying and the term that the conference occurs. Supervisor approval must be signified by signature on the application. The maximum amount awarded is $250; this amount is subject to change.

FGS Travel Grant
Conference travel grants can be awarded to full-time graduate students in a master’s or doctoral thesis program. In order to be eligible, students must present a poster or paper based on the results of their graduate thesis research at a national or international scholarly meeting or conference.
You are eligible for one FGS travel grant per degree, and you must be registered in the term when applying and the term that the conference occurs. Supervisor approval must be signified by signature on the application. The maximum amount awarded is $500; this amount is subject to change.

In-Course Scholarships
The Faculty of Agriculture In-course Scholarships and Bursaries Competition for the 2024-2025 academic year is open until is September 30, 2024, at 9:00 am.
The Faculty of Agriculture offers a range of scholarships each year to students who are registered in the Faculty of Agriculture graduate program. Applications are accepted through this and students are considered for all the scholarships based on the single application.
All Canadian and International students are eligible to apply but must be registered as a full-time student. A list of scholarships available is provided below:

Allan A. Saunders Memorial Graduate Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a student in any discipline within the Faculty of Agriculture who is conducting research related to the dairy industry. Criteria are based on academic performance, dairy farm background or interest in the dairy industry. One or more awards of $3,000 may be given out annually. Applications from the In Course Scholarships process will be directed to the Awards Selection Committee.
Andrew Wilson Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students in any discipline within the Faculty of Agriculture who have a strong academic standing and demonstrated financial need.
Class of 1956 Graduate Scholarship
One scholarship up to $7,000 will be awarded annually. Eligibility for this scholarship includes: (a) students currently enrolled in graduate studies in the Faculty of Agriculture, or b) students being supervised by faculty members within the Faculty of Agriculture but registered in Ph.D. studies at another university, or c) a post-doctoral candidate supervised by a faculty member within the Faculty of Agriculture. The scholarship will be awarded to a successful applicant who is conducting research focused on rural water supply, watershed management, and/or water quality related issues particularly in areas of study such as Agricultural Economics and Policy, Social Sciences, Engineering, or Environmental Sciences. Past recipients are eligible to re-apply.
Class of '58 Graduate Student Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students in any discipline within the Faculty of Agriculture who are enrolled in the MSc or PhD program and have a demonstrated financial need and strong academic standing. One award of $1000 is provided each year.
Faculty of Agriculture Graduate Scholarship
This scholarship is intended to support students in any discipline within the Faculty of Agriculture who have demonstrated financial need and strong academic standing. One or more awards may be given out each year, approximate amount $1,000.
Gordon B. Kinsman Memorial Graduate Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students in any discipline within the Faculty of Agriculture who are registered in a MSc or PhD program conducting research related to fruit crops, preferably related to the blueberry industry. Up to two awards of $2000 are given each year.
Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture Senate Club Scholarship
In celebration of their 60th year, the NSFA Senate Club established this award to support graduate student research relevant to agriculture in Nova Scotia. With this scholarship support, MSc and PhD students at the Faculty of Agriculture will receive financial assistance as they research issues challenging the agricultural industry in our region. The NSFA Senate Club was founded in 1959 as a social group composed of past Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture presidents and honorary members. The group continue to show an interest in the agricultural sector in Nova Scotia through tours of agricultural facilities and guest speakers. Student enrolled as a graduate student in the Faculty of Agriculture in any discipline who are conducting research relevant to agriculture in Nova Scotia and have a demonstrated ability to build relationships with the agricultural sector in the province are eligible. One award of $1000 will be made available annually.
Robert P. Longley Graduate Scholarships
The Longley scholarships will be awarded to Nova Scotia students entering a graduate program at the Faculty of Agriculture on a full-time basis. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic performance (cumulative GPA from undergraduate degree). Recipients of Graduate Entrance Scholarships will not be eligible. Students on employment leave with salary continuation are not eligible. Two or more awards of approximately $6,500 are awarded each year.
ScotiaBank Agricultural Graduate Scholarships
This scholarship is awarded to students in any discipline within the Faculty of Agriculture who are working in technology or data analytics related research for any area of agriculture, agri-food, or agri-business. $20,000 is available to be awarded per year to one or more students.
Second Century Endowment Graduate Scholarship
This endowment was established in 2005 with gifts from alumni, in celebration of the 100-year anniversary of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College (NSAC), now the мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥, Faculty of Agriculture. Graduate students contribute significantly to the research capacity and academic reputation of the institution. Financial awards help to attract and retain the best students, and it is essential to provide financial support to students to be competitive with other post-secondary institutions. One or more awards may be given out each year and amounts may vary at the discretion of the Awards Committee.
Wild Blueberry Producers Association of Nova Scotia
This scholarship is awarded to students in any discipline within the Faculty of Agriculture who have demonstrated financial need, academic excellence, and are conducting research related to wild blueberries. Two awards of $5000 will given annually.
Scholarships available to MSc students
Atlantic Farm Mechanization Show Graduate Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students in any discipline within the Faculty of Agriculture enrolled in the MSc program and conducting research with a focus on agricultural mechanization. One, or more, awards of approximately $1000 may be distributed annually.
Canard Conservation Graduate Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students in any discipline within the Faculty of Agriculture who are conducting research on environmental issues. One or more awards of approximately $1000 are given annually.
Chartwells Graduate Student Scholarship
Student must be entering the MSc Agriculture program on a full-time basis. Entrance scholarship recipients or students on employment leave with salary continuation are not eligible. This award is intended to recognize outstanding potential graduate students entering to a program in the Faculty of Agriculture. One award of $5,500 is given each year.
мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ Association of Agricultural Graduate Students Bursary
This scholarship is awarded to students in any discipline within the Faculty of Agriculture who are in their second-year of study at the MSc level. Preference is given to students from NS or the Atlantic provinces. An award of $500 is provided each year.

Edward Brown Memorial Graduate Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student in any discipline who completed their undergraduate degree from the Faculty of Agriculture and are in their second year of the MSc program. Preference is given to students from NS or Atlantic provinces. One, or more, award(s) of approximately $1000 is provided each year.
Stuart & Ruth Allaby Graduate Studies Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to MSc students in any discipline within the Faculty of Agriculture who are concentrating on animal research. One, or more, awards of approximately $1000 may be given out each year.
Syngenta Crop Protection Canada Graduate Student Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students in any discipline within the Faculty of Agriculture who are in the MSc program and conducting research focused on sustainable agriculture. Project areas may focus on environmental quality/resource management, land management, IPM, introduction of new technologies, economic viability, and rural community sustainability. One award of $1500 is given each year.
Walter Termeer Memorial Graduate Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students in any discipline within the Faculty of Agriculture who are conducting research in areas related to soil science, soil health, and composting. Selection is based on relevance to the identified disciplines of study and a strong academic performance. One award of $1000 is provided each year.
Outstanding Thesis Award
The Faculty of Agriculture Outstanding Thesis Award recognizes MSc and PhD students whose thesis research represents original works that have made substantial contributions to their discipline. A maximum of one award will be presented annually in each of the MSc and PhD categories:
MSc Thesis Award: This award recognizes a MSc in Agriculture student who has written an outstanding MSc thesis and whose thesis has made, or is expected to make, a significant contribution to their field. The recipient will receive a monetary award and recognition certificate.
PhD Thesis Award: This award recognizes a PhD in Agricultural Sciences student who has written an outstanding PhD thesis that represents a highly significant contribution to their field of research. The recipient will receive a monetary award and a recognition certificate.
Application deadline: April 30 each year
