PEI Farm Technician Apprenticeship Program (Part-time) (Temporary)

The Faculty of Agriculture, мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ is a small research-intensive campus located in Truro, NS. Offering technical, undergraduate and graduate programs in agriculture, environment and related life and social science disciplines, the Faculty of Agriculture educates future leaders and generates knowledge and innovative solutions for healthy, sustainable societies.
Reporting to the Program Manager in Extended Learning, the Farm Equipment Instructor’s primary responsibility is the instruction of farm equipment and shop facilities modules in the PEI Farm Technician Apprenticeship Program.
Instruction takes place in Charlottetown, PEI.
мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ the Program: The PEI Farm Technician Apprenticeship Program (PEI FTAP) is a Blue Seal trade apprenticeship program in the province of PEI. It combines in-class training blocks with on-farm mentorship, earning students a Certificate of Qualification in Farm Technician.
Key Responsibilities:
•Instruct fifteen (15) days of farm equipment training: Tractor Safety, Farm Equipment Fundamentals, Preventative Maintenance, and Shop Fundamentals.•Supervise student learning tutorials, shop activities, and assignments.•Coordinate class trips and activities.•Deliver presentations and facilitate class discussions.•Administer and mark student tests and evaluations.•Compile and submit reports to EL such as attendance and student marks.
Extended Learning provides all instructional and learning materials.
Qualifications:
Completion of a diploma in Agricultural Equipment, Agricultural Engineering and/or Red Seal Agricultural Equipment Mechanic (or equivalent training and experience). Three-five years of teaching experience, preferably in apprenticeship or adult education. Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel. Current on farm machinery technology and systems. Relevant on-farm experience is required. Strong judgement, tact and confidentiality are essential. Demonstrated time management, attentiveness, and verbal and written communication skills. Must have access to a reliable vehicle.
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Candidates not from PEI may have accommodations and meal per diems provided in addition.
This is a full time, 35 hour/week temporary position. The position is for a period of four weeks in January – February 2018.
