To help celebrate Welcome Week 2016, The Faculty of Agriculture is profiling some of the people you will meet across the campus community in your travels on your new path at the Faculty of Agriculture.
The People in Our Neighborhood: Keenan Kavanaugh
Name: Keenan Kavanaugh
Where are you from: Grand Falls N.B.
What do you do at Dal:
I am a third year Plant science student and the son of a sixth-generation potato farmer Thomas Kavanaugh & Sons, in New Brunswick
What does Dal AC mean to you? Ìý
The Agricultural Campus is my home away from home. I’m taking full advantage of being a student. I love the farming industry, but once I finish university, I will likely be working at my family’s potato farm until I retire. It’s certainly a lifestyle that you have to be passionate about.
What are you looking forward to the most this year?
I’m looking forward to returning to the university life style and seeing my friends and professors again. I realized early on in my studies that I didn’t understand the science behind the farm. The more I learn, the greater impact I will have.
What do you enjoy most about the campus?
I love the small class rooms and the one-on-one interactions that you can have with the professors. ÌýI have the best resources at my fingertips.Ìý When I’m not in class or studying, I’m doing research and connecting with my professors to bounce questions and ideas off them. I couldn’t ask for a better learning environment.
What do you hope to do with your education once you graduate?
I’ve never questioned my future as a farmer. It’s a part of my identity and family history. I’m extremely grateful for these opportunities – what I’m learning today will have an impact on the future of our farm.
