Sustainability Leadership Certification Program - 2014

*Please note:Ìý The certificate program includes six - two-hour modules (delivered in two days) and a final project.

The Employee Sustainability Leadership Certificate Program (ESLCP) is designed for university employees.

To receive the Course Certificate, a participant must complete all six modules and the final project.ÌýÌýEach module introduces participants to key sustainability topics and provide an opportunity to discuss campus sustainability issues. Experiential and adult education principles are used in the program design include hands-on-tours.

The modules are non-credit courses that are taught by Office of Sustainability employees and guest speakers. The practical component of the program provides participants with an opportunity to put into practice newly understood concepts and techniques by implementing a project and receiving peer feedback.

Who Should Attend?ÌýThis certificate program is designed for university employees.Ìý The modules aim to increase awareness, knowledge, and skills leading to more sustainability-related behaviours in the workplace. All employees have the opportunity to incorporate sustainability concepts and skills into any job on campus through changing office and meeting practices, servicing operational needs, or through instruction.Ìý Modules are designed to meet a variety of learning styles. We encourage a mix of occupations and perspectives in our course.Ìý Everyone is welcome.

Learning Goals:

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Increase understanding of sustainability concepts of procurement, transportation, energy and water management, biodiversity, greenhouses gases, and waste diversion.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Increase understanding of regulatory and policy obligations.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Increase awareness of relevant green building programs and standards.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Increase awareness of relevant мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥ and external resources.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Enhance sustainability related decision-making skills.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Identify potential projects and immediate actions.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Increase sustainability behaviours at мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±Ö±²¥.

Part 1: Employee Sustainability Leadership Certificate Program -Ìý Modules 1-3

Part 2: Employee Sustainability Leadership Certificate Program -Ìý Modules 4-6

Date & Location:ÌýMonday, June 16thth: 8:30 am – 4:30 pmÌý CA Douglas Room, Cummings Hall, 2nd Floor, (Agricultural Campus)

Part 3: Projects and Celebration

A 10-20 hour on campus sustainability project is required for the final certificate. Sample project ideas are provided along with a template to fill out that identifies what the project aims to address, what was done, what worked well, and what could be improved.Ìý Participants can choose their own project areas. Participants will make final presentations to their peers at a certificate wrap-up celebration session in September. Projects can be undertaken as individuals or in a group.

Lunch and refreshments are provided for both days. The Office of Sustainability will provide carpooling/travel logistical scheduling and support to registered participants.Ìý Registration is required through the Human Resources Events Calendar -by Monday, June 2nd, 2014. Maximum number of participants is 25 people. Registration is first come first serve.
