Jamie Carson – Class of ’97; Curator, Magnetic Hill Zoo

Jamie has come a long way since bringing birds to show and tell in Grade One.

Jamie Carson’s commitment to animal breeding extends far beyond his role as Curator of Magnetic Hill Zoo. Passionate about breeding for as long as he can remember, Jamie, along with his wife and three small children, operate a private breeding facility at their home in The Glades, New Brunswick, where they raise a variety of exotic and rare domestic animals.

Jamie is Canada’s first and only International Waterfowl Breeders Association Master Breeder, as well as Atlantic Canada’s first American Poultry Association (APA) Grand Master Exhibitor and he is working toward recognition in the APA Hall of Fame. Jamie is also a licensed judge with the APA, American Bantam Association and Canadian Pigeon Fanciers Association. He has judged in more than 25 states and provinces, including at the prestigious Ohio National poultry show. As district director for the APA, Jamie represents all exhibition poultry breeders east of Manitoba. To top it all off, he is the long-time president of the Greater Moncton Fur & Feather Club. All in his free time!

As Curator at the Zoo, along with keeping the establishment running, Jamie manages all of its breeding programs. He has supervised successful breeding programs for several rare and endangered species, including marmosets, squirrel monkeys, ruffed lemurs, ringtail lemurs, crowned cranes, harris hawks, barn owls and kookaburras.

In 2011, his dedication to breeding led him to be recognized as the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums Animal Care Professional of the Year. Ìý
