Posted by stephanie rogers on November 12, 2013 in News

Are you prepared for the genomics revolution?Ìý Have you had your genome sequenced yet?

Genomics is revolutionizing the fields of medicine and agriculture.Ìý In the near future, it is conceivable that every newborn baby and every food item on your plate will have had its genome sequenced.

The course, GENE 3001 - Population and Quantitative Genetics, is meant to prepare you for the genomics revolution.Ìý The course is focussed on developing the knowledge and skills required to analyse and interpret the types of DNA data that are overloading databases around the world.

This is a hybrid course – it is meant to provide students with flexibility in their schedule.Ìý Each week involves a one hour video lecture online, a one hour self-directed online lesson and a 3 hour seminar/lab on the Ag Campus.

Students are expected to have background knowledge from an introductory genetics course (GENE2000 or equivalent) and an introductory statistics course (STAT2000 or equivalent).
