Congrats to the Dal AC Men's Cross Country team who captured the overall championship banner yesterday at Mount Allison University!
Despite inclement weather conditions a hearty group of 38 male and female participants ran two great race competitions on Sunday, October 28 at the ACAA Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships, hosted by Mount Allison University.
In the women’s division the Mount Allison Mounties maintained their impressive first place league standing, defeating all competitors, winning the conference championship and taking the first six finishes with Maddy Crowell, a four year veteran runner from Charlottetown, PEI winning the individual gold medal and women’s champion award with a time of 19:22 in the women’s 5 Km race.Ìý Close behind were silver medalist Marya Peters of Sackville with a time of 21:27, and bronze medalist, Emily Annand from Truro, NS at 21:32. ÌýSenior student Caila Henderson of Brookfield, NS rounded out the team total with fourth place and a time of 22:07.
Second place and silver went to L’Université Sainte Anne Dragons with Angelina Gorrill finishing 7th overall with a time of 22:39. Teammates Eliza Garrett, Alyssa Comeau and Kathryn MacEachen completed the team total count with times of 23:45, 26:32 and 26:48 respectively.
In the men’s division, it was a dog fight for the top three positions with three different schools capturing individual awards. The 2012 men’s champion and gold medalist was Mount Allison’s Philippe LeBoeuf, a first year student from Dieppe, NB with a first place finish time of 29:40 in the 8 Km race.Ìý Second place and the silver medal went to Matthew Wheaton of Crandall University with a time of 30:16 while Kevin Morin of DAL Agricultural Campus finished with the bronze medal and a time of 30:17.
The team overall championship banner for the men was captured by Dal AC, whose top four runners had the best team time.Ìý Along with Kevin Morin’s 3rd place time of 30:17, Paul Manning, Jonathan Crouse and Lebi Yool took 4th, 5th and 8th place with corresponding times of 30:57, 31:40 and 32:14.
