Stuart Francis Allaby

Stuart Allaby was born in Bloomfield Station, New Brunswick and spent his early years in Norton and Sussex.

Following service in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II he enrolled at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and went on to graduate from MacDonald College of McGill University in 1951.

His first appointment as Poultry Fieldman with the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture and Marketing marked the beginning of a life long career in the agriculture industry. He went on to be Director of Technical Services for Maritime Co-operative Services and in 1964 rejoined the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture & Marketing as Provincial Poultry Superintendent. Stuart was appointed Director of the Livestock Services Branch in 1975, a position he held until his retirement in 1986. He was a founding partner of ABS Chick Hatchery, New Minas and is Co-owner of Lifeline Software Consultants.

Throughout his career Mr. Allaby has promoted efficient poultry production and marketing which has placed the Nova Scotia industry in a sound financial basis. He encouraged the development of supply management programs in Canada and presently acts as Chairman of the Nova Scotia Natural Products Marketing Council.

Mr. Allaby, an Honorary Member of the Chicken Producer's Association and the Atlantic Provinces Hatchery Federation was instrumental in the establishment of the Atlantic Poultry Research Institute. He is also a panel member of the Farm Debt Review Board.

Stuart and his wife Ruth have lived in Truro for many years. They have five daughters: Pam, Donna, Karen, Sonja and Carolyn.

A strong supporter of his community, Stuart has for many years been a member of First Baptist Church and served as a Deacon and Chairman of the Management Board. He also was a Board member of the Children's Aid Society.

Nominated by the Nova Scotia Egg and Pullet Producers Marketing Board, Stuart Allaby's many contributions to agriculture and his community merit recognition in the Atlantic Agricultural Hall of Fame.
