Recruitment Cycle Launch for Institute Advisory Board members

Institute Advisory Boards advise Institute Scientific Directors research priorities and implementation plans for engaging the broader research community.

Official Language Requirements for Pan-Canadian Network/Initiative Funding Opportunities.

CIHR is governed by the Official Languages Act.  CIHR delivers services in both official languages and appropriate inclusion of official languages in all CIHR-led Knowledge Mobilization.  CIHR is working to make public-facing products of CIHR-funded research including websites, social media tools and other material available in both official languages.

All CIHR funded research and KM should be available in both official languages.  Translation costs are an eligible expense under the Tri-Agency Guide on Funding Administration. Investigators of previously funded pan-Canadian projected who do not meet the official languages requirement will be contacted to raise awareness and discuss possibilities and challenges of amending material already created.

Formatting of CIHR applications

CIHR has completed a full analysis of applications received in Spring and Fall 2023.  17% of Spring 2023 and 14% of Fall 2023 were flagged for one or more formatting issues including page size, margins, font size, line spacing and font type.

CHIR will work with University Delegates and Research Administrators to draw attention to the issue as this has been flagged for fairness.  Nominated Principal Applicants from the Fall 2023 project grant competition will be contacted to increase awareness.  In future, non-adherent applications may be withdrawn. At some point in the future, withdrawal will happen prior to review. Applicants should know that non-adherence to format is often flagged during review and can negatively affect scoring.

CIHR is developing a tool that applicant can check formatting prior to submission.
