Student Research Video Competition

The (OERA) and the are pleased to announce a new segment of the as one of the highlights of this two day international event. OERA in partnership with the Nova Scotia Department of Energy will be hosting the 7th bi-annual Nova Scotia R&D Conference on May 25 & 26, 2016 at in beautiful Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

Call for Research Video Presentations
The is open to students conducting studies in offshore/onshore oil & gas, marine renewable energy, environment or alternative energy & sustainability.聽 Videos will be on display for all conference delegates to view over the full two days of the event.

Students, this year you have the opportunity to develop a short, two minute video about your energy related research leading up to the Nova Scotia Energy R&D Conference. These videos will help profile your 鈥榬esearch ideas鈥, set you apart from your peers and qualify you for a chance to win a $500 cash prize.

Videos for presentation at the Nova Scotia Energy R&D Conference may be submitted by students in the following categories:

  • Offshore/Onshore Oil & Gas (i.e. geoscience, engineering, safety, carbon capture, data processing, etc.)
  • Marine Renewable Energy (i.e. tidal, wave, offshore wind, etc.)
  • Environment (i.e. strategic environmental assessments, site specific environmental assessments, environmental effects of exploration, etc.)
  • Alternative Energy & Sustainability (i.e. onshore wind, solar, biomass, biofuels, hydrogen, smart grid technology, carbon capture and storage, etc.)

Due Date: Friday, April 15th, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. ADT

Submitting your video is easy.

How to Enter:
All contestants must upload their video to YouTube

  • Create an account on YouTube
  • Choose a well-lit space to record your video, preferably against a plain background
  • Briefly describe your research, explaining how it will shape the future of energy in Nova Scotia and beyond
  • After you have filmed your research, upload your video to your YouTube page
  • Set your video privacy to 鈥淯nlisted鈥 and disable comments

Judges and Judging Criteria:
A panel of judges will select the best video based on the following criteria:

  • Clarity
  • Narration
  • Thought provoking
  • Relevance of the research to Nova Scotia鈥檚 energy industry
  • Knowledge of the subject matter
  • Overall quality of the research presentation

Prize:
One $500 prize will be awarded for the best video submission. 聽Students are eligible to win both the and the (a chance to win two prizes valued at $500 each).聽 The winner of the Student Research Video Competition will have their video highlighted for all delegates during lunch on Thursday, May 26th, 2016.

Students entering the Student Video Competition at the Nova Scotia Energy R&D Conference will not be charged a registration fee.聽 In addition, an accommodation stipend for the evening of May 25th, 2016 will be provided.聽 Students must still register for the conference by April 29, 2016.

Entry Requirements:

  • Video links must be received by 5:00 p.m. ADT on Friday, April 15th, 2016. Videos received after that time will not be eligible to compete in the Student Research Video Contest.
  • Videos must be no longer than two minutes in duration.
  • Before promoting your video, contestants will be notified.
  • The Conference Competition Committee reserves the right to disqualify videos that are not suitable for public viewing.
  • Participating in the competition grants permission for videos and contestant鈥檚 name(s) to be posted on the OERA and Nova Scotia Department of Energy website and on social and traditional media outlets.
  • The Student Research Video Competition is open to all students.
  • All qualifying students will be eligible to win the $500 prize.
  • Anyone under the age of 18 who appears in the video must submit written guardian consent.

聽Failure to follow these requirements will result in disqualification.
