Scholarships (Outgoing)

Applying to be an Outgoing (新加坡六合彩开奖直播 to Bahamas) QES Scholar

Selected QES undergraduate students will take part in a 3-month international internship at the Cape Eleuthera Institute in the Bahamas.聽 The internship allows Canadian students to gain hands on experience in聽 conservation science research, environmental education, general systems (biodiesel, solar, wastewater management), food security, ecological health, aquaponics and/or permaculture at the Cape Eleuthera Institute (www.ceibahamas.org) and the Centre for Sustainable Development (www.csdbahamas.org) in the Bahamas.聽 There are three possible internships to apply to:

Internship 1: Marine Research and Conservation

The Cape Eleuthera Institute (CEI) aims to research and conserve the impressive marine biodiversity that surrounds the island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas. We are seeking highly-motivated, early career scientists to intern with us. Successful candidates will be actively engaged with a vibrant community of visiting and resident researchers and students. Our research generally focuses on turtle ecology, shark ecology, coral restoration, and sustainable fisheries. However, the research projects that we are running at CEI are continually changing as we answer old questions and move on to new ones. As such, the intern experience is highly dynamic and will be different every semester.

Internship 2: Sustainable Agriculture

The Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) was created in the belief that our incredibly unique and remote location on Cape Eleuthera requires a high level of self-sustainability. Food security is an extremely important issue for not only The Island School but also The Bahamas as a whole. The Food Security Team at The Island School focuses on both aquaponics and permaculture in order to increase the amount of food produced on island while also being a sustainable agriculture model. In our pursuit of outstanding environmental management, we are seeking ambitious, innovative, and bright young interns to join our team. The food security internship is split into two key responsibilities that are involved with ongoing projects to ensure that we achieve a higher rate of food security as well as to meet our zero waste goals.

Internship 3: Sustainable Systems

Our goal at the Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) is to be a model of sustainable living; our belief is that our campus is our greatest teaching tool where everyone is an educator. We value interns as collaborators and innovators who strive to make a difference not only within our strong, local community, but also at an international level. We are committed to social responsibility, environmental management, and working together toward one-planet living. Each internship will involve supporting the daily operations of the organization and will also involve one systems project that the selected intern will be responsible for developing under the supervision of a sustainability teacher. Additionally, interns will typically be responsible for: solar design and installation methods; biodiesel production and supplying diesel to Island School vehicles and equipment; assisting in the development of innovative methods to utilize waste as energy, exploring methods for natural treatment of waste streams such as micro remediation; developing anaerobic digestion systems for biodiesel production waste and human sanitary waste, and maintaining and organizing an inventory of tools and equipment in the workshop.
